Shon Michael Jackson-Jorqueras, an 18-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Jan. 14, in the 900 block of West Poplar Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before noon Jackson-Jorqueras and two others crossed paths with another group, a member of which opened fire, according to a news release from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
The gunman and others left in a vehicle. Jackson-Jorqueras was found in the backyard of a nearby home and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:19 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.
Another man was injured but is expected to survive.
