A 29-year-old Gardena man was charged April 22 with breaking into his mother’s apartment in Gardena on April 19 and stabbing her to death, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said.
Nicholas Hyunoh Kim was charged with murder with the special circumstance allegation that it occurred during the commission of a burglary, prosecutors reported. Kim pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
Sohyun Kim, a 57-year-old Asian woman, called 911 about 8:30 a.m. April 19 and reported that her son was breaking into her apartment in the 16400 block of Harvard Boulevard, according to a report from the Gardena Police Department.
When officers arrived, they reportedly saw Nicholas Kim leaving his mother's apartment and detained him. When the officers went inside, they found Sohyun Kim dead, with multiple stab wounds, and arrested her son on suspicion of murder.
