Cedric Horne, 24

Cedric Horne, a 24-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Oct. 30, in the 900 block of West 68th Street in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 6:30 p.m., Horne was working as a landscaper in the area when a man walked up to him and began shooting, said LAPD Det. Chris Barling.

The gunman got into a large black truck, which fled west on West 68th Street, then north on South Vermont Avenue, Barling said.

Investigators are still investigating the motive. It’s unclear if there was a driver, or if the gunman acted alone.

Horne was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead during surgery at 8:04 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
