Mohammed Kalam, 61

Mohammed Kalam, a 61-year-old man from Bangladesh, died Sunday, Sept. 25, after he was shot in the 12600 block of Sherman Way in North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Shortly before midnight on Sept. 24, Kalam was working at the A & D Liquor Mart when two people walked in and demanded money, said Los Angeles Police Det. Steve Castro. Kalam refused to give the thieves money and was shot.

Kalam, a father, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:12 the next morning, according to coroner's records.

The thieves fled in a car.

Rosa Barrientos, 23, and Maria Inzunza, 25, both Latinas, were each charged Thursday with one count of murder with a special circumstance that the killing was committed during a robbery. The two also face one count of attempted robbery, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. Barrientos faces a weapon allegation.

Prosecutors said Barrientos was convicted of second-degree robbery in 2015. The women are being held without bail.
