Moises Vasquez, a 10-month old Latino, died Saturday, Nov. 26, seven days after sustaining trauma in the 300 block of South E Street in Oxnard, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

[Editor's note: Although the child was injured in Ventura County, he died at a hospital in Los Angeles. For that reason, his death was included on the Los Angeles County coroner's homicide list.]

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Moises was taken to Ventura County Medical Center on Nov. 19 after being "slammed by an adult." The baby was later transferred to Children's Hospital Los Angeles for more extensive medical care.

The boy suffered from bleeding in the front part of his brain and hemorrhaging of his eyes.

Despite treatment, the child died Nov. 26 at 2:45 p.m., Winter said. Moises died from cranial cerebral trauma and his death was listed as a homicide.

Moises' mother, Josefina Sierra Hernandez, 31, was arrested on suspicion of causing injury to a child under 8 resulting in death, the Oxnard Police Department said in a statement. She was being held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Anyone with additional information about the child's death is asked to call Oxnard police at (805) 385-7740. Anonymous tips can be left at (800) 222-8477.
