Taalib Pecantte, a 7-year-old black boy, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, two days after he was shot in the 1900 block of South Corning Street in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9 p.m. on Dec. 2, Taalib along with his mother and a man were shot, said LAPD Det. John Skaggs. What led to the shooting is unknown.
The gunman and three others, described as black men in black hooded sweatshirts, fled in a white compact car.
Taalib's mother and the man were treated at a hospital for graze wounds. Taalib was also taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday, said Ed Winter a coroner’s spokesman.
Skaggs said detectives are investigating what prompted the incident.
“It fits some similarities of gang activity, but we don’t know for sure yet,” Skaggs said.
