Yusuf Latice Davis, a 39-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Feb. 23, in the 1000 block of West School Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Deputies responded to a call of a gunshot victim about 5:16 p.m. and found Davis in the street, said Lt. Steve Jauch with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities are investigating whether the shooting was a drive-by or if a person walked up to Davis and shot him, Jauch said.
Davis was pronounced dead at 5:53 p.m. at a hospital, said Ed Winter, a coroner's spokesman.
